Tinubu to honour Benin Republic’s 63rd independence

President Bola Tinubu, Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), will be the Special Guest of President Patrice Talon at the 63rd independence anniversary of the Republic of Benin on August 1, 2023.

According to a statement by Presidential spokesman, Dele Alake, President Tinubu and President Talon have had several meetings to discuss the need to review and strengthen cultural, trade, and economic relations between their two countries.

They highlighted joint border patrols by Customs and harmonizing regulations on the frontlines.

In attendance with President Tinubu will be six governors who received invitations from President Talon.

The honoured guests are: Ogun Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Oyo Governor, Seyi Makinde; Kwara Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq; Kebbi Governor, Nasir Idris; and Niger Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago.

This one-day visit to Benin Republic follows President Tinubu’s previous interactions with President Talon during the summit on New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France, and the 63rd Ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Guinea-Bissau.

During these meetings, the Benin Republic President extended a warm invitation to President Tinubu for their independence anniversary celebration.

The visit serves as an opportunity to further solidify the bonds of cooperation and friendship between Nigeria and Benin Republic, as well as strengthen the ties among West African nations.
