Tinubu’s Directive in Action: Army chief moves to reinforce North-East operations

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday paid a high-profile operational visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, declaring that insurgents of Boko Haram and ISWAP will find “no hiding place” under his command.
Embarking on his maiden operational tour of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, General Shaibu charged frontline troops at the Maimalari Military Cantonment to intensify the fight against terrorism, stressing that the era of complacency in counterinsurgency operations was over.
“We will leave no stone unturned. This fight will be pursued with renewed energy, focus, and total dedication until terrorism is completely crushed,” the Army Chief vowed.

The visit, which followed a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marks a renewed military drive to end the decade-long insurgency and restore lasting peace across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.
In a statement issued by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS assured troops that their welfare, logistics, and operational needs would be prioritized. He pledged that every soldier’s commitment and bravery in the field would be duly recognized and rewarded.
“The Nigerian Army under my leadership will be firm, fair, and focused. Troop welfare will not be compromised, and professionalism will remain our guiding principle,” he stated.

During the visit, General Shaibu received an operational briefing at the Theatre Command Headquarters and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting field commanders to ensure mission success. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining sustained pressure on remaining insurgent hideouts to pave the way for socio-economic recovery in the North-East.
The Army Chief further visited wounded soldiers at the 7 Division Military Hospital, commissioned the Heroes Transit Accommodation, and inaugurated new housing projects for junior personnel.
Later, during a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, General Shaibu solicited prayers and community cooperation in support of ongoing military operations.
The revered monarch commended the Nigerian Army’s renewed vigor and humanitarian efforts, noting with satisfaction that no local government area in Borno State is currently under terrorist control.
