Tragedy strikes as police shoot final-year student during stop-and-search

Tragedy struck at Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi, Benue State, when police officers allegedly shot and killed Ella, a 400-level student of Kwararafa University, during a stop-and-search operation.”

According to reports, the fatal incident occurred when officers attached to the E Division of the Nigeria Police Force allegedly opened fire on a vehicle in which the student was travelling.
A bullet struck and killed the final-year student on the spot.

Human rights advocate Ukan Kurugh, who confirmed the incident, condemned the killing, calling it “another unacceptable loss of innocent life.”

He has since called for justice and accountability from the police authorities.

At the time of filing this report, the Benue State Police Public Relations unit had yet to comment on the issue.
