Tribute to Musa Lawan: A stalwart of Yobe politics, by Isa Muhammad
In times like these, words often prove insufficient. However, Allah’s will prevails, marking appointed times for both taking and giving. Patience holds its reward. The ache of losing you is beyond words; it lingers in our hearts. As a guiding figure to the People of Yobe South, you were akin to a father, your worth immeasurable. A void remains, impossible to fill. Your absence brings a permanent ache, forever in our thoughts. The departure of someone like you reshapes life irrevocably. The grief doesn’t fade; we adapt to its presence, keeping you close in our minds.
On August 19, 2023, a solemn ceremony bid farewell to Alhaji Musa Lawan (Madakin Tikau), a stalwart of Yobe State politics. Thousands of mourners gathered to honour his legacy.
The sudden news of his passing hit like a lightning bolt. His death indicates a substantial setback to Yobe’s unity, growth, and advancement. It’s an undeniable reality that people of his calibre are irreplaceable.

However, the late Madakin Tikau embodied compassion and benevolence, supporting those in need and actively seeking job opportunities for youth. I got to know Madaki’s efforts to alleviate suffering, distributing food to the less privileged during the Holy month of Ramadan and donating funds. He impacted many lives beyond politics!
I remember our conversation a year ago at his residence when he encouraged me and other young people to pursue education for personal achievement. His quest for education was evident in his sponsorship of young academics.
I also recall hearing stories of how Madaki secured jobs for those who had long struggled with unemployment, and his contributions extended to positive political development in Yobe.
Lo and Behold! Living for 79 years is undoubtedly a rare privilege, yet I remain overwhelmingly heartbroken by the truth of his permanent physical departure from our midst. He wasn’t solely a political icon, but also a guiding light, mentor, and wellspring of motivation. Madaki is an unparalleled presence that cannot be replaced.
Moreover, the late Madakin Tikau supported countless homes, paid tuition fees, and covered hospital bills. He shared his earnings with the less privileged and embraced children as his own. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant his 37 children the strength to bear the loss. His passing is felt not only by them but by the entire people of Yobe State. Rest in peace, Madaki!
