Troops kill 17 terrorists in Borno operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed no fewer than 17 terrorists during a major military operation in Borno State, as security forces intensify efforts to dismantle insurgent strongholds in the North-East.

The operation was carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai during a clearance mission targeting terrorist enclaves in the state. According to the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the terrorists were eliminated during a fierce exchange of gunfire after troops made contact with the insurgents.

Brig. Gen. Nwachukwu said several weapons, ammunition, and military logistics were recovered from the terrorists, while some others fled with gunshot wounds. He added that the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement and regrouping of terrorist elements in the area.

“The troops displayed professionalism and gallantry, successfully neutralising 17 terrorists and degrading their operational capability,” the army spokesperson said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army, under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, to sustain offensive operations until all terrorist threats are eliminated.

The military urged residents of Borno and neighbouring states to continue supporting security forces with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing counterterrorism operations.
