Troops repel ISWAP ambush in Borno
Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an ambush launched by ISWAP fighters near Wakilti village, close to Kareto in Borno State.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, personnel of Operation HADIN KAI recovered two motorcycles and an AK-47 rifle after the terrorists fled.
The report said troops of the 45 Battalion (Main), who were on main supply route (MSR) patrol and piquetting duties alongside Keystone operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), encountered the insurgents around 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
Citing military sources, Makama noted that the soldiers engaged the terrorists in an intense gun battle, forcing them to withdraw in disarray.
“During exploitation of the scene, troops recovered two motorcycles and one AK-47 rifle fitted with a magazine. The enemy casualty figure is still unconfirmed,” the publication stated.
A reinforcement team later joined the patrol and secured the route to prevent further infiltration. No troop casualty was recorded.
