Trump vows to ‘stop transgender lunacy’ as top priority

President-elect Donald Trump vowed on Sunday to “stop the transgender lunacy” on his first day in office, promising executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, ban transgender individuals from the military, and remove them from schools.

His remarks were made at a young conservative event in Phoenix, Arizona, as Republicans push against LGBTQ rights.

President-elect Donald Trump pledged to “keep men out of women’s sports” and declared that the official policy of the U.S. government would recognize only two genders—male and female.

Speaking at the AmericaFest conference in Arizona, Trump also promised swift actions against “migrant crime,” plans to label drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, and reaffirmed his stance on regaining control of the Panama Canal.

Transgender issues have been a contentious topic in U.S. politics, with states on both sides of the debate over policies such as medical treatment and educational materials.

Last week, Congress passed a defense bill blocking funding for some gender-affirming care for the children of transgender service members.

In his speech, which marked a victory lap following his 2024 election win over President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump outlined bold promises for his second term, vowing to end what he called the “horrible years” of Biden’s presidency.

“On January 20, we will turn the page on national decline and usher in a new era of peace, prosperity, and greatness,” he said.
