‘Stop singing, give your speech’ – Remi Tinubu confronts Adeleke in Ile-Ife

‎First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu had a brief confrontation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Sunday in Ile-Ife during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

‎The event also saw Mrs. Tinubu being honored with the chieftaincy title of Yeye-Asiwaju of Ile Oodua.

‎Several dignitaries attended the celebration, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, current and former governors, senators, and traditional rulers.

During the event, Governor Adeleke approached the podium to deliver his speech. True to his usual style, he danced briefly before beginning to sing. The First Lady then approached him, stating, “I’m giving you five minutes to finish your speech. The music is enough.” Adeleke continued singing, prompting Mrs. Tinubu to return and warn, “I will turn off the microphone. Stop the music.” Video clips of the incident quickly went viral on social media.

‎Governor Adeleke, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been seeking a new platform to contest for a second term. In a letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, he cited internal party crises as the reason for his resignation. On December 2, Adedamola Adebayo was announced as the PDP’s candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election.

‎Speaking after receiving her chieftaincy title, Senator Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, saying that by 2026, the country’s prosperity would be “unstoppable,” despite skepticism from critics.

‎‎“Other countries will come and borrow money from us. Those wondering how we will achieve this will see for themselves,” she remarked, highlighting that President Bola Tinubu’s administration would deliver surprising results.

‎‎The First Lady also thanked the Ooni for the honor, noting that it brought her back into the social spotlight. She mentioned that her last major public appearance before this was during her 50th birthday celebration.
