WAFCON Qualifiers: Gov Abiodun gifts Super Falcons ₦50m ahead of Benin clash

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has gifted the Super Falcons ₦50 million ahead of their decisive second-leg clash against the Benin Republic in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

The governor announced the donation when he received the team at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday, ahead of the match scheduled for Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.

Abiodun described the team’s return to the Abeokuta stadium as a testament to the state’s growing reputation as a hub for sporting excellence. He also revealed plans to further upgrade the stadium’s surroundings with the addition of a luxury hotel, cinema, and shopping centre to enhance its status as a world-class sports facility.

Congratulating the Super Falcons on their record-extending 10th WAFCON title, the governor praised the team for their consistency, leadership, and discipline, which he said continue to inspire young Nigerians.

In his remarks, Head Coach Justin Madugu expressed gratitude for the warm reception and consistent support the team enjoys whenever they play in Abeokuta, noting that the stadium’s atmosphere always boosts their performance.

Team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, also thanked the governor for his generosity and commitment to women’s football, promising that the Super Falcons would continue to make Nigerians proud with their performances.

Nigeria, the defending WAFCON champions, currently lead 2-0 on aggregate after defeating the Amazons of Benin Republic in the first leg. The return leg in Abeokuta will determine who advances to the 2026 WAFCON tournament in Morocco.
