Why I am still in shock over the petrol pump price, by Oladimeji Fabiyi
I have remained in shock over the new petrol pump price. I am in shock, not because of the sudden increase in the pump price, but because of the attitudes of the Nigerian people to the development.
It beats the imagination that on the day the upward change in the pump price was announced, motorists went on casually – even in the face of agonising fuel queues and the discomfort they went through before buying the expensive fuel.
One would have expected that our roads would be vacant, all filling stations deserted, but reverse was the case. This is utterly shocking!
Such attitude reminds me of one of Late Fela Kuti’s evergreen songs (Suffering & Smiling). but complain in silence.
The attitude portends great danger to our country, no doubt. It sends a wrong signal to the government that we, as a people could freely take a bite of the hemlock if the government told us, it’s a recipe for vegetable soup.
We have told this government that no matter what they bring forth in their anti-people policies, we shall cowedly accept it. ‘Even if dem sell a liter of petrol for 50k, we go still buy am,’ that’s what I hear my countrymen say.
Nigerians!!! Please, think!
