Yobe police arrest suspects for defilement, robbery, and theft
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Nasiru Junaidu of Nayi Nawa, for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl in Damaturu.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Damaturu, emphasizing the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
According to Abdulkarim, the arrest followed a distress call received by the Damaturu Divisional Police Headquarters on November 3, 2025. He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect lured the minor into a shop several times within the Timber Shade area of Damaturu.

“The victim was rescued and taken for medical examination, while the suspect remains in custody. The case will be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State CID for further investigation and prosecution,” Abdulkarim stated.
In a separate incident on the same day, at about 2:00 p.m., police responded to another distress call reporting a robbery involving a perfume vendor between Pawari and Forestry areas of Damaturu.
“The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Anas Abba of Ajari Ward, robbed the victim of an FCMB ATM card, a Gionee phone, perfumes worth ₦1,500, and ₦5,000 cash. He later used the ATM card to withdraw additional funds,” the PPRO said.

Abba was later traced, arrested, and confessed to the crime. The case has been transferred to the State CID for discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
Similarly, on November 2, 2025, operatives of the Garin Alkali Division arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Mamman Gudu of Garin Manda village, for allegedly assaulting a commercial motorcyclist and stealing his motorcycle.
“Gudu lured the victim under the pretense of needing transport, attacked him with a stick along Gwoi Kura road, and fled with the motorcycle. He has since confessed to the crime and will be charged in court,” Abdulkarim added.

The Police Command noted a recent rise in youth-related violence, including farmer–herder clashes and drug abuse. The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, assured residents that proactive policing and community collaboration are being strengthened to tackle the trend.
He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and promptly report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
