Yobe sets to immunise 1.1 million children against polio, other diseases

The Yobe State government has taken a proactive step towards the health and well-being of its children, as it initiates a comprehensive immunization campaign targeting 1.1 million children across all 17 local government areas of the state.

This four-day initiative, jointly organised by the Ministry of Health, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and the state government, aims to combat the outbreak of polio and other diseases.

At the inauguration of the polio eradication campaign in Damaturu, Dr Muhammad Abdullahi Jawa, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, emphasized the significance of safeguarding the lives and securing the future of children under the age of five.

He reiterated the commitment of the state government, along with its healthcare partners, to eliminate polio through a sustained fight against the disease.

Furthermore, Dr Nuhu Ningi, the State Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO), reasserted WHO’s dedication to collaborating with the state government in promoting immunization efforts within Yobe. “He emphasized the organisation’s commitment to combatting life-threatening diseases and expressed confidence in the success of the campaign”.

The Yobe State government’s unwavering dedication to the health and well-being of its young population reflects its commitment to ensuring a brighter future for all its citizens.
