Yobe State enrols 275,358 people into contributory healthcare scheme, recruits 311 new health workers
The Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA) has enrolled 275,358 people into the state’s contributory healthcare scheme, reflecting its commitment to expanding healthcare coverage.
Governor Mai Mala Buni disclosed this during his end-of-year media briefing in Damaturu, highlighting significant achievements in the health sector for 2024.
The governor explained that the government supported 222 primary healthcare providers through capitation and 24 secondary healthcare facilities via a fee-for-service arrangement under YSCHMA.
Governor Buni also announced that Yobe State had won $500,000 in the primary healthcare leadership challenge for states in the North-East region.
He further stated that the government achieved 100% payment of hazard allowances, adjusted the CONMESS and CONHESS salary scales, and recruited 311 new healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses. The administration also maintained its free dialysis programme for kidney patients.
“We have undertaken renovations and reconstruction at the State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, provided high-quality hospital mattresses, and installed an anti-bacterial curtain system at the Maternal and Child Health Complex in Damaturu,” he said.
Additional achievements include constructing a modern ICT Centre to enhance social protection initiatives, building an ante-natal and VIP ward at the Women and Children Hospital in Damaturu, and constructing an Accident and Emergency complex and a one-storey doctors’ quarters at the State Specialist Hospital in Buni-Yadi.
The government also procured and distributed advanced medical equipment to various healthcare facilities and initiated research into chronic kidney disease in parts of the state.
Moreover, Governor Buni revealed the acquisition of PV VAR ASSAT software for the MRI machine at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) in Damaturu.
