Zamfara governor leaves liability of over N251b

Zamfara former governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has left behind a whopping sum of N251,951,849,482 (Two hundred and fifty one billion, nine hundred and fifty one million, eight hundred and forty nine thousand, four hundred and eighty two naira) as inherited liability to the new current administration.

This figure reflects a colossal increase from the forty-six billion naira inherited by his administration in 2011 from his predecessor Alhaji Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi.

Giving the breakdown of the line of liabilities forwarded by the economic, environment, general and social services and from the 462 ongoing projects, the chairman transition committee, who is the former deputy governor of the state Alhaji Ibrahim Wakkala, disclosed that liabilities from these four sectors stand at a sum of one hundred and fifty one billion, one hundred and ninety million, five hundred and seventy two thousand naira.

He also disclosed that from the ministry of finance, outstanding loans, contract retentions, bailouts and loans from banks reflects a sum of sixty five billion, three hundred and sixty one million, eight hundred and seventy three thousand, seven hundred and fifty five naira.

Furthermore, he said liabilities from the ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs stand at a sum of thirty five billion, three hundred and ninety nine million, four hundred and ninety eight thousand, none hundred and fifty four naira.

The committee chairman reveals also that a sum of one billion, four hundred and thirty one million, six hundred and forty five thousand three hundred and five naira was discovered as liability from unremitted National Housing Fund and pension contributions deducted from salaries between 2016-2019.

Liability from education sector and pension and gratuity matters reflect N2,812,172,155 and N1,600,000,000 respectively.

Malam Wakkala however assured the public that the committee is not implemented to which hunt or black mail anybody, but saddled with the responsibility of discovering where things went wrong with a view to sanitize and sensitize the role of governance.

He also gave the assurance that the is open to every individual or organisation with additional inputs regarding the task before his committee, stressing that ”my committee will leave no stone unturned to make sure that t unravel every hazy area, adding that even the former governor Abdulaziz Yari will, if necessary, be summoned before the committee to explain certain issues.
