Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

People of Zaria City on Wednesday embarked on Al Qunut, special prayers because of the frequent banditry and kidnappings bedevilling the city, which has already led to the loss of lives and properties.

The prayers were attended by powerful Islamic Ulamas from Kusba Quarters, an area that is a concentration of prominent Malams over the years. It was also attended by thousands of Muslim faithful; they offered two special rakaat for Allah to save them from the menace of evil men.

Recently, bandits attacked Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria and kidnapped 8 students, 2 lecturers and killed 1 HND student. The victims are still in the hands of the kidnappers.

Similarly, parents of Greenfield University whose children were kidnapped had to pay the sum of N200 million and offered ten boxer machines. They also paid N50 million to the kidnappers to free their children.

It could be recalled that Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’i had made it clear that he would never pay any ransom to kidnappers even if the victims were his family members but he quickly removed his son from Kaduna Capital School and enrolled him into Turkish College.

This has angered some of the kidnappers, who made it known through the media that because of the Governor’s pronouncement, they will continue to attack Kaduna State and its people and now it is not safe to travel to any part of Kaduna without security.
