16 Prospective corps members killed in tragic crash en route NYSC camp
Sixteen prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been confirmed dead after a horrific road accident on Wednesday while travelling to the Gombe orientation camp. Only two passengers survived the crash and are currently in critical condition.
The victims, all graduates of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, were part of the 2025 Batch C corps members posted to Gombe State. Eyewitness accounts shared online described the 18-seater bus as “crushed beyond recognition,” leaving rescue workers struggling to retrieve bodies from the wreckage.
The tragedy has plunged families, friends, and the NYSC community into deep mourning, with social media awash with tributes to the young graduates whose lives were cut short just as they began their national service journey.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement or the full list of casualties, but reactions from the public highlight growing frustration over recurring fatal road accidents involving corps members.
One user on X, @DukeofBourdilon, wrote: “Sixteen dreams gone in an instant. Only two survivors clinging to life. This level of tragedy is becoming too frequent. Our roads have become death traps.”

This latest accident follows a similar tragedy months earlier, where another group of prospective corps members died in a road crash while heading to camp. The repeated incidents have intensified calls for urgent reforms, including improved road safety measures, stricter transport regulations, and safer travel arrangements for corps members.
As the nation mourns, many are demanding answers—and action—to prevent more young Nigerians from losing their lives on the road.
