Abdulrasheed Maina hospitalised after collapsing at office, aide confirms

Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), has been hospitalised after he reportedly slumped outside his office on Tuesday, according to an aide.

The aide said the incident occurred shortly after Maina arrived at the office, when he suddenly collapsed, causing panic among staff members and people in the vicinity. He was said to have been immediately assisted by those around him before being rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care.

“He complained of feeling unwell moments before he collapsed,” the aide disclosed. “He was quickly attended to and taken to the hospital, where doctors are currently monitoring his condition.”

Although the exact cause of the collapse has not been officially confirmed, the aide noted that Maina is responding to treatment and remains under close medical observation. Medical personnel are said to be carrying out a series of tests to determine the underlying cause of the incident.

Maina’s sudden hospitalisation has drawn public attention due to his controversial past as head of the Pension Reform Task Team, a position he held during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. He was later accused of massive pension fund fraud running into billions of naira, allegations that led to prolonged investigations and court proceedings.

As of the time of filing this report, hospital authorities have not issued an official statement on his condition, while efforts to reach security agencies and government officials for comments were unsuccessful.

Sources, however, indicated that Maina is stable and doctors have advised that he remain hospitalised for further evaluation. More details are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
