Two Chibok girls who escaped an abduction by Boko Haram in Borno State in 2014, Joy Bishara and Lydia Pogu, will receive master’s degrees from Florida’s Southeastern University on Friday.

Bishara and Pogu escaped from the terrorists and eventually found refuge in the United States where the Southeastern University leaders offered them scholarships.

Bishara and Pogu received bachelor’s degrees in the fall of 2021

According to a report by the Ledger based in Lakeland Florida, Pogu will receive a master’s in human services during Friday’s graduation ceremony, and Bishara will receive a master’s in social work, she will also be the student commencement speaker.

She plans to work for a nonprofit organisation and study for the LSAT so she can eventually enroll in law school, Southeastern said in a news release.

The release said Bishara plans to work in a hospital setting as a social worker after graduation.

Bishara and Pogu were among the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted from their boarding school by Boko Haram terrorists in April 2014. Over 100 of them have not returned.

The abductions generated a worldwide condemnation and a social media campaign using the phrase, #BringBackOurGirls.
