Mrs Ortom Empowerment Scheme takes1000 women, youths off the streets

The pet project of Benue state governor’s wife Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), has provided over one thousand empowerment to Benue women and youths through skill acquisition.

Her Senior Special Adviser on Administration and ICT, Mr. Daniel Gbabo, stated this in a chat with newsmen in Makurdi.

He said the project has, since inception over a year ago, trained and provided financial assistance to women, youths and the vulnerable most of whom are now engaging themselves in useful business ventures creating job opportunities for others in the process.

He added that the Benue First Lady was also silently intervening in other key areas such as the provision of free medical treatment to the people as well as the encouragement of basic education to children revealing further that preliminary work has commenced for the construction of an oncology centre in the state to cater for cancer-related ailments.

Gbabo who is also a member of the Benue State Economic Team re-echoed the determination of the Benue State First Lady in ensuring the eradication of disease, hunger and idleness among Benue women and youths.

He urged those who have been touched through such programmes to strive hard so they can justify the resources expanded amid harsh economic situation.

He also commended the governor for assenting to the anti-open grazing bill passed by the Benue State House of Assembly in the face of stiff opposition from certain quarters stressing that, that singular decision stands him out as one who would do all within his power to ensure the protection of lives and property of his people.

He charged the people of the state especially the youth to jettison acts that are inimical to the development of the state such as the fabrication and spreading of falsehood about the activities of government but rather take advantage of the enabling environment that has been created to engage themselves in ventures that would enhance their well-being and those of their relatives.

The economist called on Benue people to continue to keep faith with the Ortom administration which according to him was poised to put smiles on their faces after many years of maladministration upon clearing the rot it met on assumption of office.

Recall that only recently, the Wife of the Governor through her NGO organized the First Benue Youth Entrepreneurship Summit which had over one thousand youth across the state as participants with the aim to build their entrepreneurship capacities to ensure self-reliance.
