Army commissions residential and office complexes in Borno for officers fighting Boko Haram

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has today commissioned Residential and office complexes under the Direct Labour Projects in Maimalari Military Cantonment as part of the military’s efforts to provide decent housing and offices to the Nigerian Army officers fighting Boko Haram in the North East.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief of Army Staff General Buratai said the commissioning was in line with his vision to address challenges of acute shortage accommodation in order to boost the morale of the troops fighting Boko Haram in the North East.
The projects, he said, were meant to provide decent accommodation to the soldiers and officers as well as conducive offices.
He called on them to make judicious use of the facilities for the purpose intended.
General Buratai assured the soldiers that their welfare will be his top priority.
“The projects would not be possible without the support of Federal Government which has remained committed to the welfare and logistics of the Nigerian Army.”
Apart from the residential accommodation and offices, General Buratai also commissioned a twenty-bed-capacity hospital ward constructed by the Red Cross in collaboration with the Nigerian Army as well as commissioning of human rights desk.
He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for personally visiting the troops in Maiduguri, adding that, the visit will rekindle their effort towards ending security challenges in the region.
Earlier, the General Officer commander, Seven Division, Brigadier General Manu Yusuf disclosed that the accommodation will further enhance the morale of the troops.
He said, the Chief of Army staff was committed to reducing the hardship of the troops and commended him for his concern and tireless effort in making life bearable to Army officers.
Similarly, in his speech, the Commander, 47 Engineer brigade, Brigadier AM Chima,  said preliminary works on the building commenced January this year, and the projects consist of eighteen structures of various sizes to provide accommodation and offices to the troops of the command.
He told the gathering that the buildings were much better than the previous ones and charged the beneficiaries to handle it properly.
About one hundred and sixty-three personnel are expected to benefit from the gesture.
The climax of the event was the presentation of the accommodations’ keys to the beneficiaries as well as interaction with the injured soldiers.
