The Chairman of the Victims Support Fund (VSF), Lt. Gen. T.Y. Danjuma (rtd) has reaffirmed the resolve of the Fund to empowering victims of insurgency in the North East, particularly women.
Gen. Danjuma said this in Gombi town of Adamawa while launching the 2017 Women Economic Empowerment Project supported by the Fund in the area.
Danjuma, who was represented by the VSF Secretary, Ambassador John Gana, said that the fund was committed to seeing that victims were supported to recover and begin normal lives once again and tasked women beneficiaries of the grants to use it judiciously to boost their petty businesses as normalcy returns to their respective communities.
The VSF Executive Director, Prof. Sunday Ochoche, said 5,000 women have so far benefited from the fund’s projects in Adamawa, made up of 2,000 women in 2016 and 3,000 in 2017.
He said that the VSF has scaled-up its programmes financially and numerically, targeting women in communities where returns have been possible. “The 3,000 beneficiaries in 2017 will receive N30,000 each with which they will start income generating activities.”
In her remarks, the VSF Director of Programmes, Professor Nana Tanko, enlightened the beneficiaries about conditions of the project and urged them to properly utilize the grants and thereby attract more assistance.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Madam Martha Hussaini, expressed gratitude to VSF for the package and pledged that they would make judicious use of it for the betterment of themselves and their families.
