PROTOCOLS

  • It is with great pleasure that I on behalf of the PCNI welcome our distinguished guests to the formal launch of the PCNI ICT Resource Centre here at the Federal University, Gashua.
  • I wish to express my gratitude to the special guest of honour, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Alh Ibrahim Geidamfor the honor of his personal attendance at this event despite his incredibly unforgiving schedule. I also recognise in a special way the presence of the many dignitaries who have come to celebrate the formal opening of this centre.
  • As you may know, even though Nigeria is one of the most progressive information and communications technology hubs in Africa, the North Eastranks lowest in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) across all regions of the country. This training and resource centre has been established to bridge this glaring gap.
  • This is in line with the Buhari Plan’s objective to improve access to Information Technology in the North East. In addition to the centre being launched today, the PCNI is also establishingsimilar ICT resource centers in other states of the north-eastern part of Nigeria.
  • It is in order to make the people of the North East self-productive and economically independent that we are launching this training program today. It is our belief that the program will lead to the establishment of a safe, secure and prosperous North-East region that is a major asset to Nigeria and a global model for post-conflict socio-economic recovery and development.
  • As all of us here will agree, skills are a pathway to prosperity and personal development; they are a driver of competitiveness and growth. With the right skills, people are better prepared for active citizenship; they have a better chance of finding and keeping a good job; and they are better equipped to set up their own business – and in turn, to create jobs for others.
  • This program is designed to inculcate these much-needed skills to the people of the North East. During the program, all participants would be trained on a number of different modules. The participants will first be trained onEntrepreneurship and Computer Appreciation after which they will be divided into two groups. While one of the two groups will be trained on DigitalGraphics Design, the other will be trained on Smartphone Repairs, depending on their individual preferences and capabilities.
  • Our aim is to fully equip the participants with the skills that will make them active partakersin the economy of the 21st century, most of which, as we know, is driven by digital technology.
  • We want to use this opportunity to call on stakeholders to support this initiative by providing internship, employment and economic support opportunities for the graduates of this programme. This will enable them to leverage on the skills gained from the programme to establish themselves and develop self-sufficiency.
  • I will like to conclude by thanking everyone who has contributed to the successful establishment of this centre and to the success of today’s event.
  • I thank everyone for attending this event and wish you all a safe return to your respective homes.
  • Thank You.
