The Federal Government has reiterated its commitments to ensure careful and speedy implementation of ICT Roadmap, E-government Masterplan, National Broadband Plan and other initiatives, as key tools in fostering public service delivery, innovation and development in the country.
The Acting President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who was represented by Minister of Communications, Dr Adebayo Shittu, stated this recently at the Launching of the Digital Smart Classroom at Pilot Science School, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
According to Osinbajo, the need to invest in the technological developments of the nation’s future generation is a task that must be accomplished, to prepare them for the tremendous challenges and opportunities that are being driven by technological change.
The Acting President, however, stated that without urgent and collaborative efforts to ensure quality education for all, the danger of exclusion from future prosperity looms.
He, therefore, assured that the Federal Government under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to ensure quality education in Nigeria which is goal number four, of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-4) having recognized that education is key to national progress at all levels.
The Vice President thanked NetDragon WebSoft Inc. for the donation of Digital Smart classroom to the Pilot Science School and enjoined all stakeholders in the education sector to continue to sustain the gesture to assist Nigeria to attain SDG in relation to educational outcomes especially digital learning.
Professor Yemi added that the Federal Government looks forward to a sustainable partnership with other organizations, with a view to assisting young Nigerians in actualizing their full potentials through quality education via ICT tools.
In a remark, Senior Special Assistance to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire said that the pilot launch of the digital smart classroom overscores the determination of the current administration to achieve a better life and economic prosperity for all.
According to her, the Federal government is working hard to implement digital society to meet up with the demands of the digital revolution which is changing every aspect of human life.
Princess Adejoke said that working hard is no longer as important as working smart in the contemporary society, hence, the collaboration of Federal Government with Net Dragon Websoft to work to achieve technological growth for Nigerian generation through digital educational tools.
Also, in an address, the Vice Chairman of NetDragon Websoft, Dr. Leung Lim Kim, Simon expressed thanks to the conveners of the event for granting the company the opportunity to partner and participate in the event.
He pledged to bring the company’s ideas into Nigeria and work with her to attain the desired digital education impacts to align with the current technological innovations in learning.
In a goodwill message, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, H.E. Edward Kallon commended NetDragon Websoft for the gesture, explaining that it serves the need of Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which hinges on achieving inclusive and equitable education for all by the year 2030.
He stated that with the use of technology, many problems can be achieved within a short while, and therefore called on the government to dedicate 26% budget allocation to the education sector to enable her to meet the target of quality education for the next generation in accordance with international standard.
