The Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHCDA) says over a million children are targeted for immunization against polio in the ongoing campaign across the state.
Dr. Rilanamu Mohammmed the Executive Secretary of the agency, made this disclosure at a press briefing in Bauchi on Saturday.
He said the Agency is targeting 1.2 million children under the age of five, and 533 personnel had been engaged and trained to conduct the exercise across the 20 local government areas of the state.
He said the personnel ware trained on vaccination of immunization drops, overdose and good presentation to the parents of the children.
According to him, the state had for 6 years now, not witness any case of wild poliovirus (WPV) and the case of rejection was tackled.
He said the Agency received enough Oral Polio Vaccines (OPVs) and other logistics for the smooth conduct of the exercise, added that the exercise, which commenced from 7 December 2019 will end on 10 December 2019, and it is currently going on in the 20 LGAs.
Dr. Mohammmed solicited the support and cooperation of traditional and religious leaders, as well as other stakeholders for the conduct of the campaign.
He also charged parents to present their children for immunization at designated centres in their respective communities to cooperate with immunization officials for a hitch-free exercise.
The Executive Chairman of the Agency announced that the state would commence meningitis and measles campaigns as well as maternal child health care week in the State.
He however assured that the state government is ready to sustain the campaigns against the wide poliovirus, meningitis, and measles in the state.
Dr. Mohammmed commended the Federal Government, UNICEF and World Health Organisation for supporting the state in kicking out such deadly diseases in the state.
While the state coordinators are; Ubaidullahi Mohammed- Bauchi, Haruna Baushe Gombe- Gombe, Aliyu Mohammed- Adamawa, Muhammad Tijjani- Borno, Honourable Salisu Bala Mohammed- Taraba and Honourable Musa Babagana Potiskum- Yobe.
