The Borno state Committee on the prevention and control of Covid 19 has relaxed the lockdown imposed on the state indefinitely, as parts of measures to ease the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
The committee in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Chairman, the Borno state Deputy Governor Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur said “there was a significant progress in the fight against Covid-19 in the last three weeks”.
“In furtherance of our efforts to contain and eradicate this deadly scourge, the high powered committee wish to announce as follows, lockdown be suspended indefinitely to study the situation for time being, however, when the situation escalate, government should revert to status quo”, the statement added.
Hon Kadafur said ” the use of face-masks by public be made mandatory and enforceable. Government, traditional rulers, religious, leaders community and opinion leaders, should ensure social distance, especially in public gathering and worship places”.
“There should restrictions on public gatherings, especially funeral procession/rights, wedding, naming ceremony to not more than 20 persons.
Henceforth, Juma’at and five daily prayers should be observed in all mosques as recommended by the Borno state Council of Ulamas in strict adherence to social distance and the use of face-mask. All churches shall conduct church services as recommended by the Christian Association if Nigeria (CAN), Borno state chapter with strict adherence to social distance and use of face-mask” the statement added.
”Government has considered the recommendations of the Borno state Council of Ulamas which clearly states that Eid prayer is a Sunnah (non obligatory) as such there will be no Eid prayers, everybody should stay at home during the period“, the committee added.
The Deputy Governor said “all vehicles, including tricycle’s ( Keke Napep) must ensure use of face-masks, as defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly. Appropriate measure be put in place to enforce restriction at all entry and exits points across the state”.
He further stated that all drivers of exempted vehicles bringing into Maiduguri essential goods shall be subjected to Covid-19 test, adding that the Covid-19 pandemic response team will continue to monitor the situations as they unfold and appropriate actions to be taken accordingly.
