Shortage of health personnel to man the various primary health facilities executed through the Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) intervention under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Bauchi have been a source of concern for the benefitting communities across the state.
Benefitting communities of such projects interviewed at Dunkurmi village in Misau LGA and Gwaltukurwa village in Dass LGA hold the view that without trained health personnel to run those facilities, the purpose for executing the projects could have been defeated in its entity.
The benefitting communities of these projects in various LGAs of the state, therefore, urged the government to ensure that suitable health personnel are deployed to run the centres so as to make health services provision accessible to the rural communities.
Some of the community members Thursday interviewed at Gwaltukurwa were the village Imam, Mallam Musa and one Malama Amina, however, commended the state government for the provision of social amenities which, they said, would go a long way in boosting their spirits.
The media team at the village in continuation of projects inspection executed within one year of Governor Bala Mohammed stewardship were conducted round by the Gwaltukurwa facility by a director in the SDGs Office Bauchi, Mukhtar Mohammed Musa who disclosed that the office during the year constructed new facilities, renovated and upgraded others at a total cost of N500 million.
Mr Mukhtar Musa explained that the projects included six primary health centres, two model dispensaries with solar-powered boreholes that feeds the communities with water, with medical equipment, consumables and other materials supplied to the health facilities.
At Liman Katagum Primary Healthcare Centre, the team was briefed by the Director of Press, Government House Alhaji Suleiman Dambam formerly PRO with the State PHCDA that 101 PHCs across the state are being renovated and upgraded by UNICEF under the European Union and State Government Collaborative intervention.
The team was received on Yelwan Duguri – Burga 60km road under construction by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Engr. Stephen Abubakar who said that road contract awarded at a cost of N8.8 billion has reached 40 per cent completion.
