The COVID-19 Prevention and Control Committee in Yobe State says the Molecular Laboratory provided in the State for testing Coronavirus disease, has started operation with the capacity of testing 98 samples at once.
The Committee Chairman and the State Deputy Governor, Honourable Idi Barde Gubana while briefing newsmen in Damaturu said the Molecular Lab was at the Yobe State Specialists’ Hospital, Damaturu and 40 samples have been tested already with one positive and 43 waiting.

“The Molecular Lab has started working so far with 40 tested, 43 waiting to be tested, 1 positive. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Yobe state is 362 where 225 turns negative, 67 confirmed cases with 8 deaths, 2 active cases and 59 discharges,” Honourable Gubana said.
The Chairman emphasized the need for utter adherence to prevention and control measures of Coronavirus and said the committee was able to embark on a massive campaign among other support for the safe re-opening of schools for SS3 final exams in the few days.
“The committee successfully supported the Ministry of Education to safely re-open schools for students in SS3 and JSS3 who are preparing for their final exams,” Gubana said.
In line with the Federal Government’s directives, the committee has also instructed some grade-level civil servants to resume work from Monday, 17 August 2020.
He said, “Civil servants from grade level 1-12 are hereby directed to resume normal working hours with effect from Monday, August 17 2020. Heads of MDAs are directed to put in place and ensure full observance of COVID-19 protocols.
“Citizens are reminded that wearing of face masks in all public places is mandatory and should be strictly observed,” the Chairman explained.
He assured that the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni will not relent in providing measures that will ensure the safety of the people; and also directed banks, markets and other private organisations to ensure social distancing among other COVID-19 protocols.
