The Centre for Law Enforcement Education (CLEEN) Foundation, a non-governmental organisation Thursday donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and COVID-19 Police Guidelines to Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The centre also called on various political actors, security agencies to carry out peaceful conduct on the election.
The state’s police command took delivery from foundation medical commodities such as 220 quantities of 250ml hand sanitizers, 704 facemasks and 530 copies of COVID-19 guidelines.
According to the Executive Director, CLEEN Foundation, Benson Olugbuo, PhD, he commends the efforts of the Nigerian Police Force, the Edo State Command for quelling tensions of possible electoral violence, he, therefore, urged participating security operatives to be unbiased and be professional in their conduct during and after the election.

“CLEEN Foundation uses this medium to commend the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force especially the Edo state command in dousing tensions and mitigating electoral violence towards the countdown of the Governorship elections in the state. In a bid to promote free and fair elections on Saturday 19th September 2020, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies policing the elections are urged to be non-partisan and professional before, during and after the election.
“They should abide with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty developed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” Olugbuo stated.
He also calls on the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to abide by the guidelines stressing the need to go after defaulters of the commission’s guidelines.
On the other hand, party candidates were admonished to stick with the peace accord brokered by the National Peace Committee as well as avoiding all form of political violence and disruptive actions that will affect the integrity of the elections in Edo state.
Olugbuo in his statement requested the cooperation of the electorates in observing the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Presidential Task Force (PTFs) laid down guidelines and INEC policy in conducting elections in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic as they come out en masse to exercise their civic rights.
