In preparation of schools resumption, the Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), a World Bank-funded project and the Yobe State Government on Tuesday provided 510 pedal hand-washing machines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The Yobe State MCRP Coordinator, Alhaji Idi Jidawa who presented the items to the Ministry of Health in Damaturu said the gesture was to strengthen the fight against COVID-19.
“We are here to present handwashing machines to the state COVID-19 committee for onward transmission to the Ministry of Education in order to strengthen safety measures against the pandemic in the schools.”
Jidawa added that the state government through the project is investing to fight the pandemic in other various areas.
Some of them according to him were two Molecular Laboratories for COVID 19 testing centres at Damaturu and Nguru, capacity building of health workers on medical waste disposal, Infection Prevention Control (IPC) and Lab testing.
Other areas include Conduct of Intensive Community Engagement and Dialogue on Prevention and control measures across 14 Emirates of the 17 local government areas and provision of biosafety equipment level two and three for infection control.
In his remarks, Dr Muhammed Gana the State Commissioner for Health appreciated the gesture and commended MCRP for its collaboration and support to the state.
Gana represented by Pharmacist Musa Dauda said the machines would encourage frequent hand washing among other COVID-19 safety protocols.
Dr Sani Idris, the state Commissioner for Education represented by Shu’aibu Bulama, the Director Schools Services, assured that the machines would be distributed to respective schools immediately.
