Residents of Geidam town in Yobe state have continued to count their losses after the attack by Boko Haram Wednesday evening which forced the residents to flee following gunshots that lasted till early hours of Thursday morning.
Babagana Ibrahim, a resident of the town said: “they came in large numbers and continued shooting, forcing people to run for their lives.”
“The shooting started at about 5 pm and they did not leave until the wee hours of today.
Mr Babagana said the gunmen came through the northern flank of the town.
He said the attack which was a first in a long time was forwarded.

“There were rumours that Boko Haram would be invading Geidam from Kanamma axis, and since the afternoon of Wednesday people from that axis have been fleeing into Geidam town.”
“And like it was rumoured the attack came from Kanamma axis.”
Sources also revealed the gunmen invaded the Geidam General hospital and abducted two nurses on duty and took them to the home of the Chief Nurse.
“They forced the Chief nurse into their vehicle and ordered him to treat some of their injured members,” said a female witness who pleaded anonymity in this report.
“They broke into major shops at the Geidam market where they looted foodstuffs and then set the shops ablaze,” said a female source who also pleaded anonymity.

“They also burnt houses of some prominent persons in the town including the house of a popular politician and former chairman of Geidam local government, Alhaji Murima Mato.
“They burnt a new shopping complex at Nguwan Kanti axis after looting the shops of their provision.”
The State Police Public Relation Officer ASP Dungus Abdulkarim informed that the police have recovered a burnt Hilux vehicle with two dead bodies but they could not identify whether they are Boko Haram or not.
The PPRO also informed that the insurgents went to the general hospital and ordered the nurses on duty to give first aid treatment to some of their wounded members before they left.
According to him, the insurgents abducted the District Head of Geidam and whisked him away.
