Boko Haram attack Geidam, cart away foodstuff, drugs

Residents of Geidam town in Yobe State were thrown into pandemonium when some gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram Insurgents stormed the town today evening.

The town was attacked by some Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, around 6:30pm as they broke into shops to loot food and drugs.

A credible security source told newsmen that the insurgents invaded Geidam from their newly established camps around Malari Zango, Abduri, Buhari, Degaltura, Kayidiri, Garin Liman, Gumsari Gagala, and Gorrgo villages, all in Yunusari local government.

“The terrorists who are operating around these areas, have since forced some villagers to move out of their homes and relocate to Geidam town for refuge from their relatives and unknown residents.

“It is from the hideouts in the surrounding villages that the terrorists are launching the attack on Geidam for foodstuffs and drugs.”

Confirming the report, Resident of the area who spoke on the condition of anonymity revealed that “We were thrown into panic when we started hearing gunshots around custom area of northern part of our town around 6:30pm, we all ran home and locked ourselves for safety.”

After making enquires we discovered that its Boko Haram that came, a friend told me that they went straight to the resident of a Point of Sale (POS) operator.

Geidam is about 200km from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital and one of the border towns between Nigeria and Niger Republic. It also shares a boundary with Borno State from the north.
