Story from Abdullahi TUKUR, Kebbi
The Kebbi State Government has donated ten Hilux Vehicles and Thirty motorcycles to the State Police Command to boost security operations in the state.
Handing over the vehicles and motorcycles to the State Police Commissioner, Mr Adeleke Adeyinka, the State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Major Garba Rabi’u Kamba retired, said the gesture was necessitated by the unwavering commitment of his administration to ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizens of the state.
Governor Bagudu said the state government would not relent on its effort in ensuring that no innocent life was lost and all law-abiding citizens must sleep with their two eyes closed.
He acknowledged with concern how the Northwest, Kebbi state not an exception, was experiencing some disturbing trends of insecurity like banditry, kidnappings and cattle rustling.
Governor Bagudu pointed out that the ugly trend happening in the state was more prevalent in the southern axis of the state, particularly in Zuru and Yauri axis.
While decrying the obnoxious rise of the formation of self-appointed vigilante groups, “Yan Sakai,” in the southern axis of the state, Bagudu noted that the state Police Command has made some deployments of a squadron and units of mobile policemen in those areas.
The Governor made it clear that the vehicles were aimed at facilitating the effective operations of the mobile policemen and the operatives of the Counterterrorism units in the state.
He also appealed to the people of the state to continue to be law-abiding as well as endeavour to offer credible intelligence information to the security agencies.
Responding, the State Commissioner of Police Mr Adeleke Adeyinka, thanked the State Government for the logistics support to the State Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police assured that the state government will make proper utilization of the vehicles strictly for the purpose they were meant for.
He called on the vigilante groups in the state to join hands and work together with the police towards curtailing insecurity in the state.
According to him, the vigilante groups on board are their friends, they are just to assist the police, they are not to cause a problem for them and if they work together, they will not quarrel.
He, therefore, warned the bandits from Zamfara State to stay away from Kebbi as the police in the state were ready to face them.
