NAICOM donates ICT laboratory, library to ATBU

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has donated an Information Communication Technology (ICT) and library facility to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi.

National commissioner of the commission, Olorundare Thomas, represented by Director Administration and Human Resources of the commission, Habila Amos, while commissioning and handing over the centre to the management of the university at their main campus in Gubi village, explained that the gesture is to promote research among students and lecturers of the school.

According to him, the mandate of NAICOM is to promote insurance, education and human capital development, adding that this is being carried out through financial assistance to tertiary institutions.

He enumerated the projects undertaken by the commission in the university to include actuarial science ICT laboratory, e-library facility, Suntech solar panel module 24V, library books and journals and sponsorship of two staff for PhD programme in actuarial science abroad.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammad Abdulazeez, represented by the Deputy Dean School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Abubakar Dutshe, expressed his appreciation to NAICOM for the gesture saying it would help enhance research in the school.

The VC acknowledged that NAICOM is a major driver of economic prosperity for decades.

Abdulazeez also lauded the commission for selecting ATBU alongside other universities and facilitating the establishment of insurance degree programmes.

“In doing so, the commission has so far provided funding for overseas PhD training of two members of staff of the faculty.

“These interventions have significantly assisted the university in meeting part of the resource requirements of NUC for approval of the commencement of the programme. I want to use this opportunity to inform the commission that arrangement has reached advanced stage between ATBU and NUC for resource verification and subsequent approval for commencement of the programme soon”. The VC stated.
