Rahama MK Suleiman is a 32-year-old Yoruba born who was brought up in Zaria City of Kaduna State. Rahama speaks Hausa so fluently that one can hardly say she is not Hausa by tribe, in fact, according to her, she was never discriminated against in Kannywood because of her tribe.
She told Neptune Prime in an interview a few days ago in Kano that when she decided to join Kannywood in 2013 about 9 years ago, no producer or director wanted to feature her in his film because she was too fat and cannot sell a serious film because viewers always prefer to see beautiful and lanky ladies playing lead roles, so in order to reject her indirectly, she was asked to reduce her weight.

Our correspondent, Saleh Inuwa interviewed her recently in Kano where they discussed marriage, challenges, her plans, discrimination and sexual harassment in the industry which has virtually given the industry a bad name in the eyes of the public.
Excerpts of the interview
Neptune Prime: Hajiya, you have been in Kannywood for 9 years but we never read about you in the papers, are you media shy?
Rahama: No, it’s only that you guys didn’t come to me for an interview, now that you are here, I did not reject to grant you an interview, but at times, it is good for one to mind his business so that those that were here before us will not feel we want to overtake them.
NP: Though it is not my business, if you reduce your weight, you will look more beautiful and attractive?
Rahama: You are touching where it has been scratching me, when I initially came here to pursue a career in the industry, I was almost rejected on the ground that I am too fat, but when I started acting with “Kin ci Amana ta” as my first film and offers started coming my way, I was again asked to go and put more weight so I continue to eat several food varieties and fruits and I became fat again, so whatever my producers ask me to do, is what I normally do, as you can see, I am now fat but very active and agile.
NP: Have you been married before?
Rahama: Yes, I married before, I am now 32 years old and I have two children and honestly I won’t mind settling down again if given the chance, but not to a young man, at least not somebody younger than me because I don’t want my children to look down on my husband and it is always good to marry an older person who will be your husband, your adviser, your comforter and what have you.
NP: What do you hate in life and what do you like in life?
Rahama: I hate gossip, I hate deception, I hate fake promises because if you come to me for whatever issue, I will tell you what is in the inner part of my heart, and on happiness, I am always happy when I call my mother or when my mother calls me in the morning or in the evening to find out how I am doing. I always respect myself and respect my colleagues, the industry is growing well these days, we are mostly into long series films.
