President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday commissioned the 156-kilometre Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail located at the Ebute-Metta area in Yaba, Lagos.
The Mobolaji Johnson Railway Complex is one of the ten stations from the state to Ibadan, Oyo State capital with state-of-the-art conveniences, car parks, elevators and ultra-modern terminals.
According to the president, the project is another milestone of his administration in reviving railway transportation in the country.
The president was joined by Bajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor; Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation; Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing.
Others include Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Information and Culture Minister; Sunday Dare, Minister of Sports and Youth Development; Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Senator Ibikunle Amosun among other dignitaries.
While the project remains a critical infrastructural intervention for the country it is also meant to ease the movement of persons from the state to Oyo vice versa, according to Sanwo-Olu.
“It is indeed a pride to see a project start and end within the life span of an administration.
“The social and economic importance of this project can not be overemphasised.
“The commissioning of this rail line has made it possible for people to work in Lagos and live in Ibadan,” the governor stated.
