The Emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, Dr Muhammad Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrissa has on Thursday reconciled Commercial KEKE NAPEP Riders and Corps of the Yobe State Road Traffic Agency (YOROTA) at his palace.
The monarch who summoned the two parties in the palace asked them to settle their differences once and for all, in order to avoid any further breakdown of law and order in his domain.
The Emir sternly warned the tricycle riders to always be law-abiding and orderly while operating on the road, which will not only ensure orderliness but also ensure their safety and the safety of other road users in the state.
“As young and prosperous citizens we expect you to channel your grievances appropriately through your union Leadership not embarking on protests or demonstrations that are capable of causing unrest in the state, this is an unwanted act”.
The Emir of Fika also admonished them to always cooperate fully with the YOROTA Corps to reduce road accidents and other associated crimes in Potiskum.
He further explained to them that the YOROTA were deployed by the Yobe State government to the town for the benefit of the citizens, and has over the years been able to ensure compliance to laws guiding the state, as well as maintaining sanity in various parts of the state.
The traditional ruler who assured both parties of his continued support and cooperation in the promotion of socio-economic development and the reign of peace in the state also said “my doors are always open for you, channel your grievances in a polite manner and don’t allow your self to be used by miscreants”.
The YOROTA and KEKE NAPEP Riders after the reconciliation prayed for continued peace and harmony in the town, thanked the Emir, and also assured him that what happened will never repeat itself anymore.
It would be recalled that hundreds of tricycles (Keke Napep) riders in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital took to the streets on Wednesday to register their displeasure over the alleged clampdown on members by men of the Nigeria Police.
The protest turned violent as tyres and police traffic control shades close to the ‘A’ Division Police Station at the heart of the metropolis were set ablaze by the angry youths, which compelled the police to use teargas in order to disperse the protesters.
