This was contained in a statement issued by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and former National President NUJ, Comrade Muhammad Garba, in Kano.

The statement disclosed that the arrest followed the submission of the First Information Report (FIR) from the Police to Kano State Government through the office of Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice which later prepared the charges.

The statement further explained that Nasiru Kabara was subsequently arraigned on Friday before an Upper Shariah Court, Kofar Kudu under the supervision of Justice Alkali Ibrahim Sarki Yola.

The charges levelled against the cleric included blasphemy, incitement of public and other sundry offences that are punishable by law.

The statement added that the Court had adjourned till 28th July 2021, however, the scholar will remain under Police custody until Monday when he will be transferred to prison. Meanwhile, some of his followers are not taking it lightly as they are meeting to see how their leader will get a soft landing.

It could be recalled that at the instance of Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, Kano State Government set up a committee of Eminent Mallams under Professor Salisu Shehu of Bayero University, Kano to organise a dialogue between Nasiru Kabara and the Ulamas in which the accused was later proved to be comprehensively guilty.
