Ten persons have been killed as a result of the Cholera outbreak in Hausa/Fulani and Tiv settlements in Taki-Bunu in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Chairman of the Local Government, Mr Moses Olorunleke confirmed this in an interview in Lokoja.
Mr Olorunleke said officials of the Health Department have been deployed to the community, saying hundreds of those affected have been treated.
He advised the people to adhere strictly to personal hygiene to avoid future occurrences.
According to him, the people have been sensitized to the need to ensure cleanliness and drink potable water always.
Speaking on the situation, the State Commissioner of Health, Doctor Saka Haruna said the state has deployed health personal and food commodities to the community.
He said the ministry is working with the leadership of the Kabba/Bunu Local Government, saying that samples have been taking to ascertain the reason for the cholera outbreak.
According to the commissioner, many victims have been treated at the primary Health care level, while those that were hit severely are been attended to at General hospital Kabba.
He attributes the outbreak to non-compliance with personal and environmental hygiene and lack of access to clean water.
Doctor Saka explained that to avoid future occurrences, the people of the state must ensure regular hand washing, adding that a clean environment is important to healthy living.
