Self-defence: CDS warns Nigerians against carrying guns

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabo has warned Nigerians against the backdrop of self-defence. He condemned this act and made it known that anyone caught in the webs of the act would be punished in accordance with the law of the country.

He explained further where people resorted to self-defence themselves they’re allowed to use anything against external attackers but warned Nigerian against carrying guns to commit all manner of crimes against the law.

In an interactive session with journalists at the STF headquarters, Irabor said the military has no business to deploy a special task force if they can’t perform their function of safeguarding lives and properties.

He promised Nigerians of the military’s readiness to fish out criminal elements.

LOE Irabor charged media practitioners on factual and responsible news reportage that will foster peaceful coexistence, especially in Plateau State.

General Irabor condemned the incessant attacks and loss of lives where he emphasized that anyone who uses religion shall be punished in accordance with the law of the land.

General Irabo disclosed that he visited the Governor of Plateau State, Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong, to the scene of the Miango in Bassa and other areas of Jos North LGA affected by the unfortunate attacks leading to loss of lives and property, for an assessment of the area.

He stressed that his visit to Jos was to prevent further escalation of current military efforts to ensure incremental peace in Plateau, urging citizens and stakeholders to give useful information to security agencies that will lead to the arrest of perpetrators of criminality in the state.

General Irabo pointed out that it was his wish that soldiers returned to their barracks and for life to return to how peaceful in this serene environment because Plateau State was known to be in the 80s and 90s which attracted tourists from far and near, but for the current peace efforts which required military presence.

He stressed that without peace no business can strive here or human activities will grow under the present upheaval we should endeavour to prosper or succeed, as he calls on all citizens to give peace a chance.
