Kogi Gov’t moves to contain infectious diseases in the state

Kogi State government says it is making frantic efforts to contain the outbreak of infectious diseases and reiterated its commitment to improve the health standard of the people.

Governor Yahaya Bello stated this during a town hall meeting at the banquet hall, Government House, Lokoja, on the cholera outbreak.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja said the determination of the state government to ensure the implementation of strategic Health Development plans is yielding positive results.

The Governor said health was one of the thematic areas of his administration, noting that it is committed to uplifting the health condition of the people.

He explained that in a bid to improve the health of citizens, the government has provided necessary facilities which include recruitment of Doctors, Nurses and other health personnel into the Health Sector.

The Governor commended the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO), for their response in combating all kinds of epidemic and cholera outbreaks in Kogi state.

Governor Bello called on stakeholders and the people of the state to ensure a healthy environment, noting that the health of the people is imperative to making wealth.

In her goodwill message, the Secretary to Kogi State Government, Doctor Folashade Ayoade, said Governor Yahaya Bello was investing huge resources in health-related issues aside from security in the state.

Earlier, the state Commissioner of Health, Doctor Saka Haruna said the state government is determined to provide quality health services to the citizens of the state despite scarce resources.

Doctor Saka maintained that the achievements of the state government in addressing health-related challenges is commendable.

The team leader of the WHO, Walter Kazadi Mulombo, said the organisation will continue to partner with Kogi State Government to eradicate health challenges in the state and commended the efforts of Governor Yahaya Bello in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic in the state.
