Kano Federal lawmakers move against Ganduje’s leadership

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

Senators from Kano State and their House of Representatives counterparts met in Abuja yesterday and discussed elaborately the way and manner the Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is running the affairs of the party which, according to them is dictatorial and a one-man show.

In attendance at the meeting, were Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, Senator Kabiru Gaya and Senator Jibril Maliya, while on the side of Reps members were Honorable Labaran Sharada, who has been having a serious problem with the governor since his election in 2019 and led his colleagues to the meeting.

They did not issue a communiquĂ© or address the media after the meeting, but those that attended the meeting told Neptune Prime’s correspondent that they discussed several issues, including how to produce the next APC gubernatorial candidate in Kano, the recent endorsement of Murtala Garo as the next APC Gubernatorial aspirant by Kano’s first lady and the way and manner the governor is creating unnecessary friction between political appointees and the public in the state.

Similarly, they were said to have outrightly reject the incumbent APC caretaker Chairman in Kano, Abdullahi Abbas from giving the chance to continue as the party’s chairman, arguing that the majority of their followers are not comfortable with Abdullahi Abbas’ leadership, hence the need to sponsor a neutral candidate.

The meeting, according to an insider, also discussed the need to support Senator Barau Jibril Maliya to contest for the governorship on APC ticket in 2023. Anything short of that will lead to the loss of Kano State by the ruling party, as such, they said they will meet with the governor to discuss all these issues, and may be forced to settle for what they called plan B if the response was not positive.

But in a swift response to the Abuja meeting, Chairman, Kano Municipal Council, Honourable Faizu Alfindiki, issued a statement in Kano alleging that one of the Senators that attended the meeting, Senator Kabiru Gaya, has disassociated himself from what was discussed at the meeting.

In a related development, a prominent APC chieftain in Kano State, Abdulmajid Danbaliki Commander has called on Kano State first lady, Professor Hafsat Umar Gaduje, to stop interfering in APC affairs in the state, because she is from Jigawa State but only in Kano by marriage.
