NMEP to commence distribution of insecticide-treated nets in Jigawa

The National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) in collaboration with the Jigawa State Government among other International Donors from the Global Fund malaria project will soon commence in the distribution of 2021 Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) in the cause of malaria treatment and elimination in the state.
Speaking on Media Orientation on Insecticide Treated Nets Campaign in Jigawa State at the auditorium of the state Ministry of Health, the Executive Secretary State Primary Health Development Agency, Dr Kabir Ibrahim stated the campaign will flag-off on Thursday 18 to Monday 29 of November and it will be on a door to door bases across the 27 LGA’s of the state.

The objective of the ITN mass campaign was to ensure that for every 2 persons in Jigawa State, there is one insecticide-treated net to sleep inside, adding that arrangements are on top gear for the smooth take-up of the household’s registration and simultaneously distribution of the nets.
According to him, the mass campaign was led by the Jigawa State Ministry of Health through the state Malaria Elimination Program with the National Malaria Elimination Programme and Catholic Relief Services providing technical support and Malaria Consortium serving as the implementing partner.
“Malaria control and prevention is a holistic responsibility of all and sundry as we have mapped out the strategy’s in making emphasis on training and supervision, as well as enlightening the community in taking up ownership of the whole concepts for its effective success”.
He called on household’s to air the net under a shade for 24 hours before hanging over their mat, mattress or bed, and tuck in the net properly under your sleeping material and sleep inside every night, and roll up the net when not in use.
Other useful information includes mending your nets when torn by sewing with thread and needle, sleeping inside the net and being free from mosquito bites. The nets protect you and your family from mosquito bites and the spread of malaria, among other expected needful information.
There is evidence of a reduction in malaria prevalence in Nigeria as it records 27 per cent in 2015.
