LG Chairman flags-off distribution of cholera prevention, control kits to women, children in Bauchi

Residents of Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State have been called upon to protect themselves from the outbreak of cholera and not revert to an open defecation system.
The chairman made the call when he flagged off the distribution of cholera prevention and control kits to women and children on Thursday.
Honourable Iliya Habila reminded the people that when cholera broke out in Bauchi State, Bogoro LGA was able to escape from the outbreak because of the practice of proper sanitation.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to you, especially our traditional and religious leaders for their dedication and hard work towards their collective resolve to the prevention of cholera and open defecation.
Bogoro LGA was the only area in Bauchi state that didn’t record any single case of cholera.
“I appreciate all our traditional, religious leaders, health workers, WASH staff for their immense contributions to make Bogoro LGA cholera free”.

He further appealed to members of the public to continue to support government policies and programs with a view to protecting their families from cholera and other killer diseases.
The chairman also called on religious organizations like churches, mosques, viewing centres and other public places in the local government to provide conveniences for use within their premises.
The chairman however reiterated that “My council will ensure that it provides clean water in communities knowing that some villages will soon start experiencing a scarcity of water during this dry season.
As you are aware, Bogoro LGA has attracted boreholes to over three hundred communities and will continue to do more this year God’s willing”.
Earlier in his speech, the coordinator of water, sanitation and hygiene, Mr Timothy Bitrus, said UNICEF in recognition of Bogoro local government toward sustaining sanitation decided to assist with sanitation kits.
Mr Timothy Bitrus thanked the Bogoro LGA chairman and all stakeholders for their contributions to the success of open defecation. He prayed that the same cooperation will be given to promote a cholera free LGA.
Mr Timothy Bitrus appeals for synergy between the local government and stakeholders to prevent the outbreak of cholera and other diseases.
In a vote of thanks, the village head of Lusa, Mr Dauda Zabas, pledged the support of the traditional leaders to support all sanitation programs in the area.
Mr Zabas said the call to prevent the outbreak of cholera is timely and traditional leaders will continue to work with the local government council and WASH office to improve sanitation and prevent cholera.
