NGO celebrates International Women’s Day with schoolgirls in Abuja

President of a non-governmental organisation named Feeni-Network International Annie-Marie K.Georgewill celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) with female pupils of Wuse 2 zone 3 primary school on Tuesday, 8th of March 2022.
According to Georgewill, her NGO focuses on eradicating poverty by empowering women with relevant skills to enable them stand on their feet socially and economically.
She said the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) ‘break the bias’ stresses the need to sensitize young girls on how to break the barrier or prejudice against women, so they can grow up to achieve their goals.
The president, however, lamented on how the media presents women on TV.
“The way women are been shown on TV is bad, as they are almost appearing naked and such thing should not be encouraged because we are cultured people therefore, they (the children) need to be reminded so that they can know the difference between their right and left”.
During the event, the president and her team were welcomed by excited pupils who were entertained with several assorted meals.
“We have been able to bring with us assorted food like Chicken, Fish, drinks and rice to make the children happy”.
Speaking to our correspondent in an interview, one of the pupils expressed appreciation to the NGO executives. “The IWD celebration has bought encouragement and joy to us today”. She said.
The head teacher Mrs Moronike Grace Adewumi also appreciated the efforts of the NGO in ensuring that women and girls are liberated from all societal limitations.
“Sometimes the Feeni Network often pay the pupils bills as some of their parents could not afford it” she added.
