2023: Jigawa-based NGO vows to monitor implementation compliance of public office holders

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Next Jigawa, has said that henceforth, all elected public office holder’s in Jigawa State would be monitored and held accountable for the implementation of citizens’ demands, as part of resolutions adopted by its members.

Speaking at a three-star hotel in Dutse while unveiling the formal launching of the documents, the Chairman, Next Jigawa, Professor Haruna Ibrahim said the documents were produced with the sole aim of influencing the political parties and their candidates to understand the citizens’ needs who will be made committed and accountable in honouring to their responsibilities.

He said: “The document touches every sector of the state public service delivery, infrastructure, economic and human capital development, such as education, health, civil service, commerce, environment whereby observation and recommendations were made as inputs in the said document.

Professor Haruna who said that Next Jigawa is committed to encouraging issue-based campaigns for sustainable democratic development called on political parties and candidates vying for political positions in the state to review their manifestos and campaign strategy to align with citizens’ demands based on contemporary realities.

“We have conducted a survey and also gathered citizens’ inputs from all the communities across the 27 local government areas of the state and finally came up with this document which we hope will be adopted as a guiding principle by political parties and their candidates in addressing most of our peculiarities”, he added.

He then promised to submit the document to political parties, candidates, and other relevant stakeholders while advocacy for implementation will be pursued vigorously at a later date for the sustainability of the whole concept.

Next Jigawa is an NGO composed of academicians, civil servants, professionals, business moguls, religious and community leaders, scholars, civil society activists, and other non-partisan people who have passion for the development of the state.
