Cholera Outbreak: Bauchi agency commences house-to-house sensitisation
The Environmental Health Officers popularly called Duba Gari under the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) on Thursday commenced a house-to-house inspection and sensitisation program to curtail the spread of Cholera in Bauchi State.
The inspection exercise which begins with the Raritan Goro and Raritan Tukwane communities of Dankade ward in the Bauchi local government area is one among many measures designed by the Agency to mitigate the outbreak of diseases in the state.
While addressing the gathering of residents before the commencement of the exercise, the Desk Officer, Inspection, Sanitarian Haruna Suleiman explained that the selection of Rariya as the pilot community was due to the consideration that it is one of the hotspots of Cholera outbreaks in the state.

“The special exercise is part of the mitigation measures taken by the Agency towards Cholera outbreak, which Rariya community was considered as one of the hotspots for the disease outbreak in the state,” he said.
Haruna Suleiman also said that the exercise was designed to cover 400 households, targeting about 7,500 households in Bauchi local government, and called on the officers to be serious, mindful, and exhibit professionalism while carrying out their assigned responsibilities.
Appreciating the exercise on behalf of the selected communities, Mai Unguwar Rariyan Goro, Malam Zubairu Ladan, expressed gratitude to the agency for selecting their communities for the special exercise and assured of the people’s cooperation throughout the intervention.
He applauded BASEPA Director-General, Dr Ibrahim Kabir, for coming up with notable initiatives and the agency for its consistency in the discharge of its assigned responsibilities, which helps in the prevention of many diseases.
A checklist of the house-to-house inspection as contained in a statement by Isyaka Laminu Badamasi revealed that the health officers will check toilet conditions, evidence of open defecation, and source of water supply as well as conditions of all the houses visited.
Others are hygiene practice facilities available, refuse disposal, and the number of persons sensitised during the visit among others.
