Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal in the 65th minute via a penalty has earned him the first football player to score in five FIFA World Cup competitions as Portugal beat the Black Stars of Ghana 3-2 at the Ras Abou Aboud Stadium in Qatar.

The highly anticipated match ended goalless in the first half seeing Ghana giving their all before the break.

Twenty minutes after the break, the West African country lost composure to have committed a foul bringing down Ronaldo in their own 18 yard box as the referee wasted no time signalling a penalty and put Portugal in the lead.

Andrew Ayew gave Ghana the leveler in the 73rd minute to make it 1-1. Joao Felix restored Portugal’s confidence five minutes later.

Rafael Leão doubled the lead for Portugal to make it 3-1 but Ghana’s determination to prove Africa’s relevance in global football earned them their second goal courtesy their number 11 striker, Osman Bukari who reduced the tally to 3-2 in the 89th minute.
