The Yobe State Government has distributed building materials and relief items to people affected by floods in three communities of Dagona, Usur, and Gabarwa in Bade local government areas of the state.  According to Yusuf Ali, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Digital & Strategic Communications to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the building items include bags of cement, nails, timbers, bundles of zinc, and ceiling boards.

Dr Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), said the gesture was to help alleviate the hardship occasioned by the flood disaster on the residents.

“Yobe State SEMA as directed by His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni (CON) is responding to the recovery needs of victims of the 2022 flooding.

“In view of this, the state government has distributed relief materials ranging from bundles of zinc, timbers, bags of cement, nails and ceiling boards, among others to enable them to reconstruct their homes”.

Goje noted that the magnitude of the flood calls for a holistic response so as to minimise food scarcity due to poor harvest and IDP influx to urban towns.

He said the MSNA results are already out and partners and other key government agencies are pooling resources to support victims. The MSNA will guide resource mobilisation to avoid duplication.

Dr Goje assured that though the recovery support may be slow considering the magnitude of the disaster, victims are to sustain resilience as the government will respond within available resources.
