NGO trains journalists on COVID-19 vaccine misinformation control

Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mercy Corps, has organised a two-day capacity-building workshop for journalists working in Yobe State on the control of misinformation regarding the Covid-19 vaccine.

The workshop aimed to equip health workers, and traditional and religious leaders on ways to provide accurate information and address misinformation around the Covid-19 vaccine in the state.

The acting programme manager of Mercy Corps, Mrs Kauna Sugabkya, said the workshop is meant to increase community participation and accountability in the equitable access and administration of Covid-19 vaccines in the state.

Mercy Corps Communication Advisory, Grace Oguntade, dwelt intensively on developing content for countering misinformation via the different communication mediums.

Also speaking, Dorathy Okaba, Communication Assistant Mercy Corps, highlighted some of the issues caused by disinformation and measures to counter them.

The two-day workshop was attended by participants from different media organisations such as Yobe State Television (YTV), Yobe Broadcasting (YBC), Neptune Prime, NAN, Blueprint Newspaper, Nation Newspaper, TVC, and Channel Television among others.
