Foundation supports malnourished children, 5,000 households in North East

The Big Family 360 Foundation has targeted to support the livelihood of no fewer than 1 million malnourished children and 5,000 households in North-East under the Food Bank project.

Mr Dirug Samuel, executive director of the foundation, disclosed this at the inauguration of the project in Yola.

He said the objective of the project is to help eliminate hunger, acute malnutrition among children, encourage school enrollment and the retention of children in schools.

“For now we are targeting 5,000 households in the North-East to be supported under the North-East Food Bank Project.

“And one million malnourished children especially in the three states affected by insurgency; Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States”, he said.

According to him, people to benefit were carefully selected for their vulnerability and malnourished condition.

He added that the households would be supported with food items and children will be given nutritional meals on monthly basis from the food bank apart from school feeding programme.

In his remarks, Mr Henry Wandiya, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Yola Renewal Foundation, commended the organisation for the good initiative.

He said the programme is an humanitarian gesture for the vulnerable people which will impact positively in the North-East.

Describing the project as first of its kind in the North-East, Wadiya said the support would transform the life of the vulnerable population in the North-East.

Heman Danladi, Monitoring and Evaluation officer, Big Family 360 Foundation, said the foundation is a non profit making organisation and community mapping had been completed for the successful implementation of the project stating from Adamawa State.
